World of Wonders!

A cabinet of curiosities designed to inspire and delight visitors from 1 to 100.

The challenge we were set by The Wilson Gallery in Cheltenham, was to design a gallery that would meet the needs of under-fives and their adult friends. This involved creating a special gallery which put young people at the heart of The Wilson’s collections and displays. Working with the World Cultures collection, we created a relaxed playful gallery with curiosity and discovery at its core.

We bought an expert in early years learning in to be part of our team to work with staff, volunteers and parents to deliver workshops about play and learning. The project removed object labels, added natural history and European artifacts into the gallery and introduced a handling collection as well as books, toys and games into the gallery. Storytelling events are enhanced by adjustable sound and lights and hanging fabrics to transform the space into magical tents.
