Powell - Cotton Museum

A new interactive learning space at the award winning Powell-Cotton Museum puts the handling collection centre stage.

HKD worked closely with the team at Powell-Cotton Museum to design a new learning space, funded by the Arts Council England to increase access and awareness of the museum’s unique collection.

The gallery focuses on five of Powell-Cotton’s expeditions taken between 1889 and 1932, to inspire visitors that anyone can be a researcher. The project ‘Securing the Future of Our Past’ brings over 700 objects from it’s handling collection on display for the first time for visitors to learn through touch, creativity and play.

HKD also created a graphic identity and series of icons to help classify objects in the collection and applied this to the Gallery 6 Booklet design.
